Neko is an elegant bar of minimalist design interior yet elaborate Japanese-style cocktail drinks from Andrey Kornilov and Japanese menu from chef Pavel Maletsky.
Andrey Kornilov, bartender of “S.I.D.R. Group”, conceived the creative cocktail list drawing influence from authentic Japanese drinks with yuzu, ume, wasabi, rice milk, different types of fruit vinegar, jasmine, lotus, Japanese lilac and glowing Japanese seaweed. A top of that Neko is renowned for the largest sake list in Moscow.
Neco’s menu was devised and put into life by Vasilisa Volkova (SIDR Group) and Pavel Maletsky (Rybka Moscow), Novikov (Dubai) and Seafood Room (Hong Kong). It is based on two different components: traditional Japanese cuisine and modern tweaks. Traditional sashimi is not served until after having been ordered and is presented to the guest on a shiso leaf: tuna yellowfin, scallops and hamachi. Another dish of Japanese canonical cuisine is Poke salmon. Poke is a dish of rice and salmon, pickled in soybean sauce with sesame oil, red onion, garlic and coriander. Udon wheat noodles is served at Necco with tree mushrooms and seafood, and wok-fried rice, with vegetable and chicken. The prices are average for Moscow. Chef’s own rolls: Marble with Wagyu beef and pink pepper, and Necco, with hamachi, salmon, crab, tuna and 6 different sauces. Pavel prepares traditional sushi in the modern style, combining sauces and unusual condiments.
Andrey Kornilov, one of the best bartenders in Russia, has carefully designed Neko’s unique cocktail menu based on authentic Japanese alcohol drinks with a personal touch. “I decided to focus on such iconic Japanese symbols such as samurai, geisha and divine beauty of Mount Fuji that Europeans discovered only after the opening of Japan”, says Andrey.
The interior decoration by Ekaterina Korchinova (Schrödinger’s Cat, Cinematograph, Vermoutheria) is all about minimalism. Neko appears to be cozy yet spacious: in order to achieve openness and transparency Ekaterina used floor-to-ceiling windows. Though the interior was designed to be minimalistic, it does not lack elegancy: marble and yellow metal panels gracefully blend with prevailing natural wood. One of the walls is decorated with a Japanese-style woodblock printing in the shades of blue. Tableware bares distinctive Asian features as well.
To sum it up, Neko is a state of the art Japanese restaurant, capable of comfortably seating up to 40 patrons.
